Supporting Ukraine’s post-war recovery through Astronomy

Overview

The Recovery Plan for Ukrainian Astronomy is a collaborative initiative launched to support the rebuilding and long-term development of Ukraine’s astronomical infrastructure and community. It aims to develop the strategy of recovering astronomy in Ukraine through connecting Ukrainian institutions with international partners and funding opportunities to ensure their continued contribution to global science.

Why this matters

Since the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, Ukraine’s astronomical facilities, institutions, and researchers have faced significant challenges. With support from the European Regional Office of Astronomy for Development of the International Astronomical Union (IAU’s E-ROAD) and partners across Europe, this project focuses on developing the strategy in the following areas:

  • Infrastructure recovery
  • Scientific mobility and exchange
  • Long-term collaboration and integration
  • Capacity building and funding access
